Zune and iPod Price War
With Microsoft’s Zune only around the corner, what will it mean for users of portable music players? Our view is that it we will only be seeing positives as what greater way to get lower prices than two big shot companies (Apple and Microsoft) battling it out to get the customer to buy their product (iPod and Zune).
This means cheaper prices, more accessories, better services, and in general greater value for us the consumer. It has been done and seen before with Xbox vs. Sony PlayStation. The two companies battled it out and it only saw positives for the consumer with special bundle packs price drop after price drop.
Hopefully this will be happening again with the iPod and the Zune. With iPod now having to step it up a notch and start developing better bundles, and lowering their prices on the iPod and accessories. Whether you’re an iPod fan or a soon to be Zune fan it does not really matter, both consumer sides will be winners thus making the portable music player market that oh so much sweeter.

that thing is ugly as hell! what are they thinking? you have sleek and sexy ipod and they are trying to compete with something that looks like it belongs in a pencil case.. all very dull
All this competition is great for the consumer. I am all for Zune but lets not forget the 3rd (and prettiest) player in the marketl: http://www.miniplayer.info.
Never heard of miniplayer, looks alright. And yeah your right Kibets the competitionis great, be an iPod fan or Zune, its still all good news for the price of products.
“With iPod now having to step it up a notch and start developing better bundles, and lowering their prices on the iPod and accessories. ”
Now… Now? It won’t be out in the States til November… Apple sells 5+ million iPods a quarter and has more memory buying leverage than Sandisk and Samsung themselves. Me thinks Softy fans are ahead of themselves.
Maybe you should ask what happens if the 20% of the market they want to grab comes from Creative, iRiver, etc…?
True, Apple do sell allot, just saying no mater what player you like, iRiver, iPod, Creative or Zune, its still going to hopefully be good news for the consumer.
from what i’ve read they are planning on releasing the zune at 30gb for 399.99 . all i have to say is that it better be packing some nice features or i would just go over to apple and get the 60gb ipod for the same price.
Microsoft has already approached iPod accessory-makers and offered them a cheaper rate than Apple’s “Made for iPod” deal. There’d be no reason for the accessory-makers to charge the same price or more, in this case. Unless, of course, tehy are being greedy.
that is rthe most pathitic design!! how can they even think the will get anything the suck
[…] We’re loving the aggressiveness of Microsoft’s pricing. It’s a clear gauntlet-drop - and says a lot about Microsoft’s determination to grab a generous slice of Apple’s pie. […]
kool
Everybody says they are ugly, I’m not a big fan of the brown or white one. But the black looks pretty sick.
hey the zune is a 30GB which can hold over 7,500 songs ,or 10,000 pics, and over a hundred hours of videos and hey its not 399.99 its 249.99 an besides the ipod freezes from time to time and and it scratches so easily on the back which makes thumbprints stick to it like glue im so tired of yall trashing everything about it and not knowing a thing about it and saying very little input on the sound quality
Guys go with the Zune its better looks better and has a RADIO un like the ipod
