There are no new features in this update, but it does provide some performance enhancements around set-up, sync and as always general reliability.

On 13 November, Microsoft will be their next generation Zune 4, 8 and 80. The great thing about these new Zunes means that the 1.3 million or so Zune 30 owners get a new Zune software or Firmware upgrade as well. If you upgrade your Zune 30 to the newest Zune Firmware on 13 November you will have the exact same software as the Zune 80s. Here is a simple tutorial on upgrading your Zune software/firmware on 13 November.

November 13 is an important date in the Microsoft Zune world. The new Zune 4, 8, and 80s will be released and the new Zune Firmware will be available for the Zune 30 users. The major Zune Firmware improvements are the capability for the WI-FI feature to not only sync with other Zunes but also with your computer (if you have wireless). Also, Microsoft has changed the “Three Day” music sharing policy to a “Three Play” sharing policy. Basically, when a Zune user purchases a song on the Zune Marketplace they can share the song with other Zune users. Before this update users had three days to enjoy the music then were prompted to purchase the song to continue to listen to it. Now users have three plays before they must purchase the song.
Here is the official Microsoft release on the new Zune Firmware.
“Beginning on November 13, you will be automatically prompted for a one-click update of your Zune software - with the full line of new features and functionality for your Zune. Your feedback has helped us create the new features, including Wireless Sync, a redesigned and restocked Zune Marketplace and the Zune Social where you can share music, videos and pictures that define you.”

The newest update of the Microsoft Zune Firmware 2.1 will be released in the next 48 hours. This Zune Firmware update is likely in anticipation of the new Zune 2.0 that will be announced tomorrow by Bill Gates. This firmware update will work with the original Zune as well. More to follow when it is released.
Apparently a Zune “tipster” sent in a picture of a Zune with the beta build of firmware v1.4 (shown as 2.1.4). Now the interesting thing with this is that the tipster goes onto say that the Zune will now be able to connect to wireless hotspots and and download new content with Microsoft points (just like Zune MarketPlace)
Thing I have to ask here is, why do all “tipster” photos looks really blurry? Or am I losing my eye sight here? So I think I will just put this down to a rumor, as to me that really isn’t that much proof.
What do you think? looks fake? or could have some truth behind it? Also what are some thing you would like to see in the new firmware update?

Just a reminder that the firmware update that you’ve been waiting for is now available. There is nothing new in the firmware other than fixing a couple of issues.
These are the things you’ll find on the update, as listed by Cesar for ZuneInsider:
We’re fixing the skipping problem that some users were experiencing – that is, content acquired from Zune Marketplace will no longer skip when played on the device.
Improved device and software reliability, when it comes to device detection, and improved sync’ing.
We’ve made some changes to the FM Tuner so it no longer drains the battery when in sleep mode.
