					<description>The first clear statement I know of in that direction was actually in March of 2006, in the Steve Ballmer interview (the one that got press because Ballmer casually mentioned brainwashing his kids).  He said:

"In five years are people really going to carry two devices? One device that is their communication device, one device that is music?"

Which pretty much everyone took to mean that a convergence device was part of Microsoft's plans for their (at the time unannounced) iPod competitor.</description>
