Purchased iTunes Songs to Zune
If you are like many iPod users who converted to the Zune, you would have lost some songs purchased with iTunes thanks to the iTunes protection, as it will not allow you to move music over to the Zune. Fear not iPod convertees, there is help:
1. Create a new playlist in iTunes.
2. Add the protected songs to your playlist until you have 72 minutes of music.
3. Click Edit and select Preferences.
4. Select the Advanced tab.
5. Click the radio button next to Audio CD on the Burning tab.
6. Click the Burn Disc button.
7. Upon completion of burning the disc, rip the songs to MP3 using Windows Media Player.
8. Open the Zune software and sync the newly created MP3’s to your Zune device.

hmm…never thought of that
This is an extremely lossy way of converting music. Much better way:
Download QTFairUse. Make sure you have iTunes 7.0 (though it may work in higher versions, the FairPlay version is the same for all files DRMed by iTunes 7.x as of this date).
-Run the executable.
-Wait as your library plays through. (My library of *purchased* music took about 2 days of straight playback). You bought the music, so you’ll probably enjoy listening to it, right?
-Import into Zune software and enjoy unadulterated content! Note this is NOT an analog loop. It writes the un-encrypted datastream straight to disk.
So if you value your audio fidelity, as I do, take the time to do it right.
It’s a load of bull to say doing the cd rip method will ruin your songs. If you do it ONCE per file and use the porper bitratesyou will lose NO (noticable) sound quality. Sure,if you burn the tracks as 128AAC and then rip as 64MP3,yeah,your tracks will sound bad.
Now,if you have 300 songs, doing this 20 songs at a time will take all weekend but I suggest ripping a cd for every 20 songs you buy and store the mp3 versions on a external drive if you have one. Leave the orginal AAC’s in itunes and have mp3 versions on hand if you even switch to a non-ipod player.
I want to be 100% legal with my songs but I am just livid over the Zune issues since buying it. When I initialized the Zune, it only copied about a third of my libary from My Music which I used to play with Windows Media Player (WMP) from my PC. NONE of this music was ‘purchased on-line’ - it was all legally owned CD’s that ripped just fine into My Music library using WMP, but only a quarter was picked up by Zune. This is absurd ! I have different problem with my son’s Zune who was using iTunes (lost his iPod) and wanted a Zune for Christmas. Wish I had waited.. the same problem with ripped CD’s into iTunes in addition to the encypted music files purchased on iTunes store. Neither will come over. I tried QTFairUse and it did not bring over any additional songs to Zune after running over the iTunes library.
Any help out there ?
Irritated in the Northeast
I already knew that!!! we need an easier way that let’s us keep the song info instead of having to rewrite it ourselves ok!
I used to have an iPod and through iTunes purchased about 12 TV shows….I was wondering if with the new Zune I would be able to transfer the shows I’ve bought from iTunes onto my Zune….Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Why not load a virtual CD drive (or better DVD) and burn your iTunes library to ISOs, then mount the image and import into WMP to sync over to your Zune?
That’d be a quicker way to transfering the iTunes library to be compatable with Zune. Also would save you the cash on the blank CDs ;)
Hey Ken, could you expand on this a little if you don’t mind? I’ve got about 50 single songs from itunes that i’d like to get over to the zune software…but including album info. Every way i’ve tried imports the songs as “unknown artist”, and all the album info shows up as unknown. Care to guide me through, step by step? thanks,

i was wondering if u could just burn the songs onto a cd than lode them on to the zune software?
the best way is to burn the cd, then import it on itunes even though you all ready have the music on itunes, and the zune software will update with all the song information
