Replacing your broken or problem Zune
I get a lot of e-mails each week with Zune owners asking about their broken/problem Zune. Seems that a lot of people drop their Zunes!
If you are having problems with your Zune due to dropping it or it just started having problems you should refer to your Zune Product Guide. Many throw their Zune Product Guide away so I will post some useful information here.
The first thing you should do with a problem Zune is to take it back to where you bought it and see what their policy is. For instance, Walmart will take back Mp3 players within 15 days of purchase. Check with the store you bought it from (on the internet or a physical store). Each store will have their own Zune return policy.
If the store you bought your Zune from does not take it back then you will have to work through Microsoft’s Zune Warranty.
Microsoft has a 1 Year Express Warranty. The Zune Product Guide states that the original purchaser falls under this Zune Warranty program and, “that under normal use and service” and that the user must, “conform with the accompany printed user instruction materials.” I am no lawyer, but I take this to mean if the Zune just stops working or has a problem during normal use (no dropping) and you have not modified your Zune Software/hardware in any way you are covered. There is no way you can expect a company to refund/replace a product if the buyer is “hacking” the software and messes up!
If you qualify for the Zune 1 Year Express Warranty the you must call Zune direct at 877-GET-ZUNE (877-438-9863). Even if you are past a year or don’t qualify it can’t hurt to try!
In the Zune Product Kind it states that you must submit proof of purchase “in the form of bona fide, dated bill of sale, receipt, or invoice.” This is to prove you fall within 1 year. Also, you must follow Microsoft’s shipping instructions and delete/remove any files or data you consider private or confidential.

As I said in the article, you have a one year warranty for your Zune to get fixed or replaced.
Okay, so what are you saying Mike? Unless it is some type of defect the only way to fix / replace a broken screen (which by the way the Zune screen breaks WAY too easily, design flaw?) - is … wait, there isn’t one. So, now we all (that have brtoken screens) must purchase a whole new player - why, my music plays fine…
There must be a better solution to this???

I moved out of courtry recently and once again my zune has been giving me problems. I tried along with a family member, (whom is state side) to call Zune direct. The number keeps coming up disconneted. What else can I do? I know longer have the recipt. I’m in the military and have been doing a lot of moving due to deployements. I really dont have the time to keep calling due to malfunction with my zune.
I had synchronized too many of my dad’s library so I used up all my GB space. I erased the library from my zune, which fixed my player’s free space, but now I have none of the cool videos which came on my zune. Where / how can I put those back into my library?
Not that many people drop their Zune hard enough to crack the screen. I think you guys should look into it (probably have), and if it is a design fault, at least FIX our broken screens!
Man I’ve had my zune for maybe around 4 months…the screen worked fine and everything and i was satisfyed…i hate how it syncs automatically i find that very annoying..so i was walking to school at EMU and i pulled out my zune expecting to hear some phat beats when my zune decided to take a time out the time thing was scrolling but no music was playing…i then sweated it off and didn’t care until i got to the “casa” and the screen turned on then just turned black as midnight…now when i plug it into the computer my computer can’t even remember it and says it’s unknown..if the zune company could help me out that would be awesome….i can’t take many more walks without my Billy Squire - Stroke Me playing…
Try calling them! My zune did that then it just stopped working about 5 months later. Call customer support and ask them about it if you don’t know what’s going on. good luck
OMFG I have been on the phone with zune for over an hour between 3 phone calls.
They say that my zune is not in warranty because the manufactured dates according to the serial number was 10/27/2006
Today is 12/10/2007
My original receipt says I bought it on 12/23/2006
The warranty in the product guide clearly says that the period is 1 year from date of purchase
I’ve talked to 4 different people.
I am very upset because this damned device has never worked properly from the day I bought it. I’ve called many times in the past, and they never seem to have a record of my info.
I have to give them everything each time.
It crashes often, it resets randomly, it pauses in the middle of songs, it randomly deletes songs when I sync new music,
These problems are greatly reduced if I keep it plugged in to a power source, but still prevalent.
And now to top it all off, I no longer receive sound in my right channel.
No cause.
I tried several different cables,
tried restarting it,
Tried every remedy available.
They don’t want to repair it.
They suggest that I buy an extended warranty.
Can you imagine how it feels thinking I am losing $250.00 dollars unless I pay more money?
I will not give up until I get a working zune with no money out of my pocket.
I will contact the media.
I will sue Microsoft.
They better fix it.

My dad bought my Zune a couple of weeks before christmas. so I got it Christmas Eve. Well today the screen broke.When you turn it on all you see is this little crack thingy and colors. I calles the support line and they of course was no help. How can I get this Fixed?

i recived my zune one week before christmas and it worked very well the first two weeks. A couple of days ago i was transfering music to the device and it froze. it gave me the option to erase everything and start over. Now when it starts again it goes back to the erase all option over and over again. What should i do?

Im having an internal problem with my zune. It turns on and then it turns of the next second. thats basically it.
I got my zune in september..I dont think I still have the reciet but my zune wont work anymore it broke about a month ago and Im callin the zune company today but the screen stays blank it keeps a slight glow but I cant turn in on..its very weird and i DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED…I have kept it in a case since the day I bought it….wtf???

i got my zune as a xmas present. i never dropped it. the damn thing doesn’t shut off. i had it connected on the computer. it was charging. i unplugged it. it won’t shut off. where u see the little battery life icon. it has the charging icon on there and it’s not connected to nothing. it won’t shut off at all. so sucks to be me.
I bought a zune for my daughter for christmas. She ran the damn thing over with the car by accident, long story, not intentional. Now the screen the casing are really damaged. Best Buy does not want to replace ity because its not normal wear and tear, duh! What can I do, it was the pink special edition. $200 am I out of luck or is there a place I can send it to repair it or would I just be better to buy a new one?
My Zune fell in the bath tub. It worked so I just kept useing it like nothing happened. the next day the screen didn’t work but the music does. What should I do?
sorry I’m a little confused.
are you saying that if the zune is not working and you bought yours about seven months ago so you are in the year warranty but you don’t have the receipt, they won’t replace it? people should not be expected to hold on to a little piece if paper for that long just in case something happens. Someone please correct me if i am totally wrong here.
um my zune seems liek its really dead i havent used it for 2 months and when i did it would not turn on
and when i charge it it just has a really faint battery pidture show up

I bought a zune for my daughter in January 08 with a one year warranty through MS. Here is it the beginning of Feb 08 and now the screen is cracked with no damage to the outside. Called your so called customer service line and was appauled to find out you don’t cover it. I will NEVER make the mistake of buying anything from MS again. You won’t fix it even though it lasted less than a month. Your so called customer service line told me to take it to a place that fixes cell phones and MAYBE they can replace the screen. Is Mr. Gates really that freaking hard up for money he would cheat a 15 year old girl out of her zune. Disgusting. Never again will I let M$ get any of my money for anything.
my 30g zune turns off when i am playing music for an hour or so have you heard of any more problems like this what is a possible cause and repair help is welcom thanks
ya right i called the zune company and they said they wont fix it and they wont give you a new one the only reason microsoft dosen`t fix them is because they know it`s a problem!
same deal here. They turned me away. I got a crack in the lcd and my phone died while i was explaining my situation and now they wont help me at all. It cracked from me pressing the up button on the zune!
Really really terrible design flaw. The silver lining around the zune is the weak spot. I was just increasing the volume and the screen underneath shattered. My phone died while talking with customer service so they assumed i was bs-ing them and they assumed that it was just an accidental drop and now they wont help me. Serious of bull**** events

I purchased two Zune’s for two of my children this past Christmas (2007). I’ve lost the receipts and my daughter’s Zune has a problem with the screen (not broken, just can’t see anything). Anyway, am I out of luck trying to get this fixed because I didn’t keep the receipt?
I purchased it at the military PX here in Virginia but she’s in Georgia going to college.

I have the special edition zune designed by nylon magazine. i was listening to it at work and when i looked to change the song the scrren was completly black. it still plays music, its stuck on shuffle mode since i cant see to turn it off shuffle mode. is this a common problem with zunes? i have never even dropped it…
i have the limited edition zune designed by nyolon magazine. i was listening to it at work on shuffle mode, and when i went to change the song the screen was black and its stuck that way. it does have a glow, but its all black. the music works and its still on shuffle since i can not see to turn it off shuffle mode. the zune was just siting on my desk, it has not been dropped once. is this a common problem with the zune? i am very dissapointed, up until now i really loved my zune.
Everyone out there that is having the problem with the screen going black or support telling you that you tampered with or dropped the Zune and they won’t fix it. Please file a complaint with the Better Business Bureua. When it asks for which division of microsoft use the one with the address in the state of Washington. Hopefully this will get us some help. Tell them everything that has been told to you and also request they check to see if this is a design flaw. If enough of us file these complaints maybe something will get done. Good luck!
If you are have a problem getting Microsoft to fix you Zune due to the screen going out, please file a complaint the the Better Business Bureau. Hopefully if enough of us file the complaints, something will get done. We have spent too much money on these to not get them fixed. You can file the complaint on line and Better Business Bureau.com. Bought a zune for my son for x-mas, and am having the same problem that so many others are having, black screen! What is going on with microsoft these days, I just had to send in the 360 for the 3 red light problem and now the zune has this problem before I even get the 360 back!! Always thought I could trust Microsoft but outsourcing is killing his bottom line and reputation! This is getting just to pricey to continue with his products.
my zune won’t turn on I got it to turn on once with plugging it in on usb port on computer but 10 min later nothing again and now won’t even work by plugging in usb either????????????
Has anyone had a problem the zune blacking out … plays for a while and just stop … blacks out … and when reconnected it’s not recognized by the Zune software …
Okay, my zune broke yesterday, it keeps coming up with “Contact support” and occasionaly ” please wait” I wouldnt mind sending it back, but heres the problem I live in the UK, so calling America would cost me quite a lot. I have also heard people offering to pay postage back to the US but MS have refused. So im in a bit of a pickle, any ideas of what I can do, or any rights I may have?
woah woah woah. Your zune broke… and you offered to pay for the shipment of the item back to the US. And then the postage for them to ship another, working, zune back to you? And they said they wouldn’t accept that?????!!!! Shame on you Microsoft…. I thought they were better than that. : / Please email me back and tell me if ANYTHING was done by the microsoft company that had a POSITIVE outcome.
mine just wont even start…… i plug in to recharge and it keeps turning on and off instantly……its only been used when im at home its in primo condish just has a problem charging and starting ……..its completely dead and all my music on on there
alright, so listen I bought a zune from a pawnshop and they had a seven day return policy, I was chargin it on day eight and it breaks, I dont know where it was bought or where to send it and get it fixed, what do you say about this mike?

I tryed to start my zune and it froze. It wouldn’t come on for a couple minutes and when it did, a window popped up saying I had to erase all my saved data for it to work again. It gave me no other option. Now I can’t even get it to hook up to my comp. If there is so many problems with these things, shouldn’t there be a recall?
Ok I recieved a Black 4 GB Zune for Christmas 07
it started to malfunction between January 12th-15th so i let it sit until the battery ran out…Then two days later in the morning I tried turning it on after i let it charge , it didn’t.
i went to school after I tried to turn it on, I came back home and it still didn’t turn on even after I had it plugged in all day!
then today I tried to register my zune on here and it wont even accept the serial number
and my grandma called the idiotic customer support and told her our adress and the stupid women said “Your adress doesn’t exist…” how the heck doesn’t it exist?! my family’s been living here for 30 years!
now please tell me…how can i get some service?

Well, I bought my zune about three months ago from amazon.com. Everything was going fine, no problems with the screen or anything. But yesterday, for the first time I turned it on to the lock mode so that I could leave it in my purse and it wouldn’t start playing or anything, and the little switch for lock and unlock broke off!! So it is stuck on lock and I can’t do anything with it. Does anyone know if that is going to be covered on their warranty or not?? PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK, it really upsets me. Just because I had never turned it on to lock and the FIRST time I did this is what happened!!
So then its true? A broken screen can’t be fixed? 200$ just gone. So what do we do with the expensive trash then? It can’t be that we can’t atleast just pay to replace that part.
