Well took a while, but finally got word back on what the Zune warranty is going to be…

Yea i figured i hate the ipods so i got a zune but it goes to crap on me month after my warranty so i figure yea a scam for to go buy a brand new zune but no the jokes on you microsoft i’m getting me a brand new IPOD!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA
Wow, similar story. I bought 3 zunes, 2 from Ebay and one from a Friend. The Ebay units were new and the one from a friend about 7 months old.
Well I gave one unit to my son and it froze because of a touchpad problem. (he was playing the zune games on the unit daily). Microsoft said it was out of warranty, but my friend found the old Circuit City receipt and Microsoft replaced the unit under warranty.
I gave one unit to my wife. The same exact thing happened with the touchpad on her unit. We had to power reset it, but the problem occured again immediately and the unit is not usable. Microsoft would not honor the warranty nor recognize purchasing it new on Ebay. The unit is 7 months old and they will not fix it. The support person even asked, “does your wife play games on the unit”, indicating that was the cause of the failure.
I gave my 3rd unit which I almost never played games on, to my wife. I told her never to play the games and for now it still works.
I, the anti-apple person went and replaced my broken blackberry phone with an Iphone and bought an Itouch for my music/video needs. I couldn’t be happer. The unit design is 10 times better than the Zune. Microsoft, like always, uses their marketing scams to get people to buy their products. Now I realize that most of the reviews of their products are on sites monitored by their own staff. They eliminate the negative posts and make everything seem positive. I found later that as many as 66% of the people have had locked Zunes, requiring replacement.

I got one 120G zune. the problem is that it’s only 3 months old, and it does not work correctly. I read your article, and I have the same problem. What I would like to know is if you have any number at all or any e-@mail from zune related to support or anytihng like that, to call or write and see if those guys can help me with my problem…..

They told me I would have to pay $80 to fix the glass panel on my 120 and I needed a credit card # to start the repair order. :( I know there are cheeper services to do it, but now I’m worried they will void my warranty if someone else fixes it and I told them. WHAT DO I DO? I still think it was from the heat on charging. NEVER DROPPED. Never could break from bottom corner.

I bought a Zune in Nov 2007 from Costco.com. Tonight, I discovered that the inside screen has a few crack lines even though the top glass cover is still intact (without any crack on the glass).

My zune’s battery will die after only a few hours of playing, which i know a lot of people are having the same problem.
Also, when i charge it up and dont play it within a day, the battery is already dead the next day i decide to turn it on.
And if i play the zune for a few songs (maybe 3) then turn it off then turn it back on a few MINUTES later…the battery is almost dead.
And if i turn the zune off and a few HOURS come back to it, it is already dead, even if the battery level was almost full when i turned it off previously.
I have never dropped my zune.
When it says low battery, I make sure I turn my zune off. And charge it up ASAP.
Just one day, it decided it wanted to be dead the next time I turned it on.
i bought my zune from amazon back in november but it was to late to return it there again, so i guess i have to rely on my one year warranty from microsoft.

Yes, I am having the same problem! I cannot even watch 1 full movie before it dies. At best, i can watch 1.5 hours. Did you get resolution to this? I am going to have to use my MSFT warranty.
Yes, I have the same EXACT problem! Now mine is completely gone & wont turn on at all. It will decide that its dead and when I plug it up, it will start to charge. But minutes later, it will die ON THE CHARGER and not turn back on again. So Im not sure what to do at all! It is only June & I just got it at Christmas. I bought my zune at MCCS Miramar Exchange. I have the reciept. I bought it April 07 and I need the address to send it to for repairs quickly before my warranty is over.
My zune has had these problems for about 6 months now. I just kept putting it off.

Thinking of buying one and wondering if anyone helped any of these people… or if their issues were resolved. I’ve had problems w/IPODs & wanted to try something new. It’s like buyer beware, now I don’t want to buy either one because they both seem to have similar issues (especially w/batteries). I gave my husband an ipod when it first came out and it still works perfectly. I just mad the 1 year warranty of my Zune and now and keeps shutting on and off. I loaded the new software and it took off all my songs. The website does not recognize the software. This is ridiculous. I would not recommend anyone buy a Zune. No wonder microsoft is havnig problems. They claim it will be over a hurdred dollars to look at it. As far as I’m concerned I’ll put the $100 towards an Ipod.
I just spoke to someone in another country about my Zune that just missed the 1 year warranty. It keeps shutting on and off, deleted all my songs and after reloading the new software, doesn’t recognize my Zune.

So the hold switch on my 4 GB Zune won’t work. It’s stuck on hold and therefore I cant use the device. Im going to send it in and try to get it repaired or I want a new one. Ive had it for 8 months,so it’s within the 1 year warranty. That thing is my pride and joy, haha, and I will be extremely angry if Microsoft doesn’t accept it within the warranty.

heyyy i have one of the old pink 30gb zunes cuz i got it as a present on my birthday. and it was the only one that was left all over town. i was wondering if thier was any possible way i coild get a new version of the zune since mine was 250 and the new ones are too? or do i have to take it back where i got it and try there?
I had purchased my Zune 30GB in January, this year. I no longer have the original product box and proof of purchase receipt. My Zune 30GB started malfunctioning on me back in July. Basically, it would charge but as it was doing so, it would turn on and then turn off consistently. After a while, I would be able to turn it on to see the main menu then it would show the “Exclamation Battery” icon, which meant the battery was dead. So, am I able to send out my Zune 30GB because it’s still under warranty or is the situation “FUBAR”. Technically, they should be able to track when my individual Zune was purchased and registered right? Or is that only an Apple method? Please, reply to me with any helpful information because I was going to purchase a new 2nd Generation Zune yesterday, but spoke to a friend and she said, try to go through the company as much as possible. Usually after every update my zune will auto delete all its material. For example, i was listening to my Zune while doing a project and it was on a shuffle between all its songs and it came apon a song that was recently synced onto my device and said there was no data. I was confused and just went to the next song. Mind you my zune is not plugged in to my PC. The next song played so i didnt worrie about it. I was on my way to school and i decided to listen to my device and it showed no data for EVERYTHING. i did not plug it in to my pc between last night and today and everything is deleted. i restarted my zune and still no data for everything. if anyone has a solution, please e-mail me at Sammiammi2@aol.com.

I purchased a Zune in december and my Zune is working perfectly fine.Maybe for thos who are complaining about battery life should try to set the Backlight to 1 second and on low power. Also for those who deal with the cracked screen after putting it in your pocket might want to try keeping it out of your pocket.I did that with my iPod and the screen was halfway done. And get a protective case people.The case isnt there to buy for no apparent reason folks. and compare the zune to an iPod. With an iPod you can only connect it to a certain amount of computers.With Zune you can connect it without it getting corrupted. All in all….iPod’s suck…stick with a zune. Mine is a 80GB, and the warranty doesn’t even cost much.GET THE WARRANTY!!!get it from GeekSquad of something.

Had mine for about a 18 months, barely use it, but now it wont work. It powers up and plays but could be a problem w/ the spkr jack? It stopped working mid song. If they are past warranty can they be fixed?

My Zune has been acting weird lately. My Zune was 100% charged at 5:30 and dead at 6:30. It doesn’t show the low battery signal, it just shuts off.

I like the Zune itself, but I think that the Zune “warranty” is worthless. Almost the only things support will tell you is what you can get on-line. My daughter’s 16 gig Zune’s play/pause button broke. The only option offered was to buy a new 8 gig Zune for $99. I was hoping for “It broke during warranty so you get a new Zune.” Forget it.
