Zune to have Podcast Support

A recent update on the official  Microsoft Zune web site - www.zune.net has added a surprising but expected page called “Pass it On“. On the page is talk of Podcasts support and a large rectangle feature of NPR Podcasts. Podcasts have been a long awaited feature for the Zune by many users as its been a great way for users to stay on top of the subjects that matter to them while on the move. Podcasts have also been a much talked about feature to soon be included  in a future software update by Microsoft
Podcasts are well integrated into the iPod iTunes store and is a major feature to many iPod users, hopefully this will be a feature soon to come to the Zune Marketplace

I’ve definately been waiting on this, glad to see it’s coming. I was suprised it wasn’t part of the initial launch.

If anything, doesn’t this indicate no update? “Here are links to podcasts and free mp3s because our Marketplace is limited.”

nice find! if you click through to NPR’s website, there are “Download to Zune” buttons right alongside “Download to iTunes” buttons. on every podcast they offer.

it is a bit odd that NPR would put the buttons up before the update is out, though.

After looking into it further, nothing has changed as far as I can see. Microsoft recommends using a third party podcast reciever (they even tell you what search term to use to find one) to subscribe to podcasts and having what ever folder the podcasts are stored in be monitored…..I hope they get serious and update the Zune software to include podcasting subscriptions….

P.S. The NPR “Download to Zune” button simply is a link to download the MP3 of the podcast. :/
